Call (817) 755-5621A sink gets more use than almost any fixture in the house, so small faults show up fast: a drip inside the cabinet, a slow basin, a strainer that weeps every time you fill the sink. Plumber 24 Fort Worth handles sink repair in Fort Worth for kitchen, bathroom and utility sinks, from our base at 955 N Sylvania Ave in Riverside.
This page covers fixing the sink you already have: the supply under it, the drain assembly below it and the seals that hold it together. For a new sink, see sink installation; for a dripping spout, see faucet repairs and installation. If a faucet connection is leaking into the cabinet, we check it as part of the sink repair.
Sink problems we repair
- Leaks under the sink: loose supply lines, shut-off valves dripping at the stem, loose P-trap slip nuts, and failed basket strainer or pop-up seals.
- Slow and clogged sink drains: grease and food in a kitchen trap arm, hair and soap caught in a bathroom pop-up.
- Drain assemblies: cracked traps, corroded metal tailpieces, flattened strainer gaskets and pop-up stoppers that won't seal or lift.
- Faucet connections: drips at the faucet base or its supply hoses, and weak flow from a stop valve that won't open fully.
- The sink itself: an undermount sink pulling away from the counter, a failed rim seal, or a bathroom overflow that leaks when the basin fills.
- Utility and laundry sinks: leaking traps, drain lines and supply connections.
Leak under the sink? Do this first
- Close the two shut-off valves under the sink (clockwise). If they won't turn or still drip, shut off the house water at the main valve.
- Empty and dry the cabinet so you can see where fresh water appears.
- Put a bowl under the drip. If the leak is on the drain side, don't run the sink, dishwasher or disposal.
- Call (817) 755-5621. Water you can't stop is an emergency, and our 24/7 emergency service covers it at any hour.
Water in the cabinet but no drip you can find? If the floor stays damp or the water bill has jumped, the leak may be in the wall or under the slab, where North Texas expansive clay can stress pipes as the foundation moves. That calls for leak detection or slab leak repair.
Kitchen sinks vs. bathroom sinks
Kitchen sinks
Grease, starch, coffee grounds and food scraps settle in the trap and trap arm, and basket strainers loosen with daily use. A double-bowl sink shares one drain with the dishwasher and often a disposal, so if water rises in one bowl when the other drains, the clog is past the point where they join. Disposal faults are covered under garbage disposal replacement.
Bathroom sinks
Hair and soap wrap around the pop-up stopper; pulling and cleaning the pop-up and trap usually clears it. Other common faults are a leaking pivot nut behind the drain, a worn overflow gasket and mineral scale in aerators and stop valves.
Sink or drain line?
If more than one fixture is slow, or the sink gurgles when the tub or washer drains, the blockage is probably in a branch or main line, not the sink. That's a job for drain cleaning, and a video camera inspection shows what's inside a line that keeps backing up.
Older Fort Worth homes: what we find under the sink
Many Riverside, Oakhurst, Six Points, Northside and Fairmount houses were built between the 1920s and the 1960s. Under their sinks, that age shows up in three ways:
- Galvanized supply pipes rust from the inside, so the stub out of the wall corrodes and its shut-off valve seizes. Changing that valve takes care so the old pipe doesn't snap in the wall.
- Cast-iron and galvanized drain arms narrow with rust and scale, so the sink keeps clogging after the trap is clean.
- Pier-and-beam floors, common in Fairmount, run the sink drain through a crawlspace, where a drain leak can soak the subfloor without ever showing in the cabinet.
When the fault is in the pipe, not the sink, we show you what we found and the options, up to drain repair or repiping.
Repair or replace the sink?
Most sink leaks trace to a replaceable part: a stop valve, supply line, trap, strainer, pop-up or rim seal, and an undermount sink that has dropped can often be re-secured and resealed. A new sink makes sense when the bowl itself has failed (a crack through the basin, or enamel worn through to rusting metal) or the countertop is being replaced anyway; see sink installation. We'll tell you which we'd choose and why. Other fixtures are covered under fixture repair.

Sink Repair FAQ
Why is there water under my kitchen sink?
+
Usually a loose P-trap slip nut, a worn basket strainer seal, a dripping supply line or shut-off valve, or the dishwasher or disposal connection. Dry the cabinet, run the water and watch where new drops form. If you can't find it, close the shut-off valves and call us.
Should I pour a chemical drain cleaner into a slow sink?
+
We don't recommend it. Most sink clogs sit in the trap or pop-up and come out by hand or with a small drain cable. Harsh chemicals can damage older metal drain parts and leave caustic water in the trap.
Why does my sink keep clogging after I clear it?
+
If the trap is clean and the sink still drains slowly, the buildup is usually in the drain arm inside the wall or further down the line. In older Fort Worth homes, galvanized or cast-iron drains narrow with rust and scale. Clearing or replacing that section fixes the cause.
Is a leaking sink an emergency?
+
A slow drip into a bowl can wait for a scheduled visit. Water you can't shut off, a burst supply line or a cabinet filling with water is an emergency. Call (817) 755-5621. Office hours 8 AM–11 PM daily · 24/7 emergency service.
