Most dripping faucets don't need replacing. The leak usually comes from one worn part: a cartridge, a washer, an O-ring or a valve seat. Plumber 24 Fort Worth finds that part and replaces it. When a faucet isn't worth saving, we install a new one in your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or on an outside wall.

We work from 955 N Sylvania Ave in Riverside. This page covers the faucet itself. For a cracked basin or a leaking drain, see sink repair; for a whole new sink, see sink installation; for tub and shower valves, see shower repairs and installation.

What is your faucet doing?

  • Drips after it's off: a worn cartridge, washer or seat.
  • Leaks at the base or handle: dried-out O-rings or a loose mounting nut.
  • Stiff or wobbly handle: a scaled-up cartridge or a stripped handle screw.
  • Weak flow at one faucet: a clogged aerator or cartridge screen. Weak at every tap? That's a water pressure problem.
  • Sprayer drips or won't retract: a worn spray head, a kinked hose or a slipped counterweight.
  • Water in the cabinet below: often a supply line, shut-off valve, drain or the garbage disposal, not the faucet. We trace it first.

How we fix a drip, by faucet type

  • Two-handle compression: common in older homes. A hardened rubber washer or a pitted brass seat causes the drip, so we replace the washer and reface or replace the seat.
  • Cartridge: most single-lever faucets. Cartridges are brand-specific, so we match the exact part. A new one usually fixes a drip and a stiff handle.
  • Ball: older single-handle kitchen faucets. Worn rubber seats and springs get a rebuild kit.
  • Ceramic disc: most newer faucets. The discs rarely wear, but grit or failed seals can cause a drip; a new cartridge fixes it.

Why fix a drip now? The EPA's WaterSense program says a faucet dripping once per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons a year. On the hot side, you pay to heat that water too.

Repair or replace?

  • Repair when the body is sound and parts are still made, as with most drips.
  • Replace when the body is cracked or corroded, parts are discontinued, or it keeps leaking after repairs.
  • Upgrade when you want a pull-down sprayer, a taller spout, touchless operation or a filtered-water tap.

Faucets sold for drinking water since 2014 must meet the federal lead-free standard, so an older kitchen faucet is a good candidate for replacement.

Faucet installation: kitchen, bath, laundry and outdoor

Count the holes in your sink or countertop before you shop.

Kitchen faucets

A single-hole faucet fits a three- or four-hole sink with a deck plate, or a spare hole can take a side sprayer or soap dispenser. Pull-down heads suit deep single-bowl sinks; pull-out heads suit tight spots under cabinets or window sills. Both need hose clearance around the disposal.

Bathroom faucets

Centerset faucets fit three holes 4 inches apart, widespread faucets fit holes 8 inches or more apart, single-hole faucets suit newer vanities, and tall vessel faucets serve bowls that sit on the counter.

Laundry and outdoor faucets

We also repair and replace utility-sink faucets and outdoor hose bibs. Hose bib split in a freeze? See frozen pipes for how to protect it.

How we install a new faucet

  1. Check that the stop valves under the sink actually close.
  2. Clean old putty and scale off the deck so the new faucet seals flat.
  3. Mount it as the manufacturer specifies, with fresh supply lines.
  4. Flush the lines before fitting the aerator, so debris doesn't lodge in the new cartridge.
  5. Run hot and cold, test the sprayer and check every joint for drips.

Faucets in older Fort Worth homes, and hard water

In the 1920s–60s houses of Riverside, Oakhurst, Six Points and Northside, faucet parts and the pipes behind them are often decades old:

  • Old two-handle faucets: stems for discontinued models can be hard to find; without a matching part, a new faucet is the quicker fix.
  • Original stop valves: multi-turn stops that haven't moved in years can stick, or drip once closed. Replace them while the water is already off.
  • Galvanized supply pipe: rust flakes lodge in aerators and cartridge screens. If every tap runs weak or brownish, see piping and repiping.
  • Hard water: white scale stiffens handles and narrows aerators. Soaking the aerator in vinegar overnight often brings the flow back.

Faucet won't shut off?

Water won't stop? Turn the stop valves under the sink clockwise. If they won't turn, or there aren't any, shut the main valve at the meter box or where the water line enters the house.

Then call (817) 755-5621. A faucet stuck open or a burst supply line is an emergency, and we offer 24/7 emergency service. A slow drip can wait for office hours.

Faucet repair and installation FAQ

Why does my faucet keep dripping after I turn it off?

A worn cartridge, washer, O-ring or valve seat is letting water past. Tightening the handle harder won't help. Replacing the worn part stops most drips without a new faucet.

Can a leaking faucet be repaired instead of replaced?

Often, yes. If the body is sound and parts are still made, a new cartridge or seal set usually fixes it. Replace it if it's cracked, corroded or keeps leaking.

Why does only one faucet have low pressure?

Usually a clogged aerator or cartridge screen. Unscrew the aerator and rinse it. If every faucet is weak, it's a whole-house water pressure problem.

Do you install new kitchen and bathroom faucets?

Yes: kitchen faucets (single-hole, three-hole, pull-down and pull-out), bathroom faucets (centerset, widespread, single-hole and vessel), plus laundry and outdoor faucets.

Is a leaking faucet an emergency?

A drip isn't. A faucet that won't shut off or a burst supply line is. Close the stop valves or the main, then call (817) 755-5621. We offer 24/7 emergency service.
