Every range, fryer, oven and wok on a cook line needs full gas pressure at the peak of a shift. Plumber 24 Fort Worth installs restaurant gas piping, equipment drops, movable-appliance hoses and shutoffs, sized for the whole line, under Texas plumbing license # M-27587. New piping is permitted and inspected by the city before gas reaches it.

Leak or tagged meter instead? See gas line repair or the Atmos red tag page.

Smell gas in the kitchen? Leave the building first, and bring staff and guests out with you. Don't flip switches, start equipment or light anything. From outside, call 911 or Atmos Energy, then call us at (817) 755-5621; we send our on-call plumber right away.

What the installation covers

  • New piping and drops. A main along the cook line with a drop at each appliance position, matched to the hood layout.
  • Ranges, fryers, ovens and woks. Plus griddles and charbroilers. Wok ranges draw heavily, so they get their own sized branch.
  • Caster hoses. Quick-disconnect connectors with restraint cables for equipment that rolls.
  • Manual shutoffs. One per appliance, plus valves that isolate a section of the line for service.

Sizing gas for the whole cook line

Each appliance lists its gas input in BTUs per hour on its rating plate. At the dinner rush nearly everything burns at once, so the pipe must carry the combined load from the meter to the last appliance without losing pressure. When it can't, the far end shows it first: slow fryer recovery, drifting oven temperatures, weak wok flames.

We size from your equipment list, the run length and the pressure the building receives. Atmos Energy owns the meter, and if the new total is more than it was set for, Atmos may need to set a larger one, so we flag that early.

Hoses, restraint cables and shutoffs

Equipment on casters gets rolled out for cleaning, so it can't be hard-piped. Fuel gas codes call for a connector listed for movable commercial cooking appliances (ANSI Z21.69) and a restraint that limits how far the unit rolls.

  • Quick-disconnect hose. Unplugs once the valve is closed, so staff can pull the unit out.
  • Restraint cable. Anchored to the wall and shorter than the hose, so the hose never takes the pull.
  • Shutoff valve. Upstream of the hose, in the same room as the appliance and accessible, so it can be closed before the unit is moved.

To move a unit, close the valve, unplug the hose, then unclip the cable; reverse that to put it back in its spot under the hood. If the hood's fire-suppression system discharges, it shuts off the gas automatically, and that valve must be reset by hand. We coordinate its location with your suppression contractor.

Permit and inspection before the gas is released

Fort Worth enforces the International Fuel Gas Code, with local amendments, alongside its plumbing code. New gas piping and most changes need a plumbing permit through City of Fort Worth Development Services, and the plumber doing the work pulls the permit.

  1. Equipment list. Models and BTU inputs, or your kitchen designer's spec sheets.
  2. Site visit and sizing. Meter, existing pipe and route.
  3. Permit, before work starts.
  4. Rough-in. Pipe, drops and valves, with every outlet capped.
  5. Test and inspection. The capped system holds pressure while a city inspector checks it.
  6. Startup. After approval and any Atmos meter work, gas is let in, lines are purged, joints are leak-checked and burners are lit.

More on testing: gas pressure test.

Working around service hours

Non-urgent work is booked at a time that suits you. Pipe runs away from the line can often happen before opening or after close, without shutting the kitchen. The tie-in and test need gas off to the affected equipment, so they go in a closed day or planned window, and we tell you ahead which equipment will be down. On new builds, rough-in is timed so the inspection happens before ceilings close.

Remodels, moves and additions

Adding a fryer, swapping a flat-top for a charbroiler or shifting the line in a remodel means rechecking the existing pipe first. Old drops get capped or removed so nobody connects to an outlet never sized for the new load. A former shop turning into a restaurant often has no usable gas piping at all.

We work in the Stockyards and Northside, Magnolia Avenue in Near Southside, Sundance Square and downtown, West 7th, and Riverside, Oakhurst and Six Points near our base on N Sylvania Ave, plus nearby towns. New kitchens often need grease trap service and commercial water heaters too.

Restaurant gas line questions

Do restaurant gas lines need a permit in Fort Worth?

Yes. New gas piping and most changes to an existing system need a plumbing permit from City of Fort Worth Development Services. The plumber doing the work pulls it, and a city inspector checks the pressure test before gas enters the new pipe.

Can a new fryer go on our existing gas line?

Sometimes. We add its BTU input to everything already on that pipe, assume all of it runs together, and check the total against pipe size and distance from the meter. If it won't fit, a larger section or a new branch is the fix.

Why do appliances on casters need a special hose and cable?

A hose listed for movable commercial cooking appliances flexes as the unit rolls out for cleaning, and the restraint cable stops the unit before the hose or its fittings take the strain.

Can you install gas lines without closing the restaurant?

Mostly. Runs away from the cook line rarely affect service. Only the tie-in and the city test need gas off to the affected equipment, and we tell you ahead which units will be down.

What happens to the gas if the hood suppression system goes off?

It closes the gas valve automatically, and the gas stays off until the valve is reset by hand, usually after the suppression company recharges the system. Pilots and burners are then relit and checked.
